3 Ecolodges in 7 Days

This tour is very flexible according to flight times and desires of the guest. It is either a 7 day tour as indicated or it can be shortened by two days by flying direct from Labuan Bajo to Ende.

Day 01 Denpasar – Labuan Bajo

After breakfast at The Udayana Kingfisher Eco Lodge, fly Denpasar to Labuan Bajo (flight times are continually changing and flights can range from 0700 to 1300 departures); picked up by our driver. Transfer to our Bajo Komodo Eco Lodge for a welcome drink, meet our staff, check in and lunch. After a siesta, either proceed to Bidadari Island for snorkeling or undertake the River Safari (excellent for birders and ecologists) if the tide is right.

Aternatively, if you catch the 0700 early flight, you could go direct to Rinca Island, one of two main islands where Komodo dragons are found.. From the airport at Labuan Bajo, check into The Bajo Komodo Eco Lodge and then immediately transfer back to the harbor to join your boat to Rinca one of the two main Komodo Islands (around 2 hours journey) where en route you can enjoy the island sea scenery for which the Komodo National Park is famous. You will arrive at Loh Buaya and enjoy trekking (between 3 – 7 km according to your wish) that is guided by Jagawana staff (national park rangers) to see Komodo Dragons and other animal species such as buffalo, wild boar, deer, monkey and birds. This is a unique experience as the Dragons only occur in this very small group of islands. After trekking you will return to the boat for lunch and on the way home you can relax and enjoy the underwater beauty with snorkelling and swimming at one of the inner islands.  Dinner and rest at the Lodge

Day 02 Labuan Bajo – Komodo island

Komodo Island is the largest island and apart from the dragons, it is famous for its dry land habitat and variety of birds. Departure is at 05.30 after breakfast arriving at Komodo at around 09.30.  After checking with the park authorities, you trek for 2 km through the bush to a special site where Komodos are generally seen. During the walk you can see many species of birds, deer, pigs, and many orchids. Lunch is at the park headquarters where Komodos are generally lurking. If time is available, you will snorkel on the world famous “Pink Beach”. This whole day is full of sights of the park, birds, corrals, fish and wonderful scenery.

Day 03 Labuan Bajo – Ruteng – Aimere Cottages

This is a long day and an early start is required after breakfast at the lodge. Travel will be continued to RUTENG (around 4 hours), a hill town located at 1.200 above sea level.  There are optional stops at local villages and lunch will be taken in Ruteng. During travel you can stop for photos of spectacular scenery including volcanoes, beautiful valleys and sea views. After lunch a stop will be made at Ranamese Lake surrounded by tropical rain forest, then proceeding to a palm wine making business in Aimere where after a drink, you will spend the night at The Aimere Cottages

Travel Time around 8 – 10 hours

Day 04 Aimere Cottages – Bajawa – Ende – Moni – Kelimutu Crater Lakes Eco Lodge

Also a long day, after breakfast, you will proceed to Bajawa, another hill town en route to Ende. A stop will also be made at WOGO to see a traditional village of the Ngada, rich in their megalith culture.  Lunch will be taken at a simple warung (small restaurant) on the side of the road. You can see and enjoy the beauty of Ende Bay where an export industry is based on the collection of blue stone of the beaches. A stop will be made to observe activities of locals collecting blue stone to be used for interior design in swimming pools and bath rooms. Ende is the commercial hub of this area and a port; it also has one of the best private schools in Indonesia and a house where Sukarno was exiled for many years by the Dutch. The last leg is 90 minutes from Ende through the mountains with spectacular scenery to the Kelimutu Crater Lakes Eco Lodge

Travel Time (10 hours)

Day 05 Moni – Kelimutu Crater Lakes – Kelimutu Lodge

A very early start in the dark rising at around 0430; after a quick coffee/tea and snack make the 17km run to the lakes to be there at dawn. This is a unique experience and you will not only see a beautiful setting but be informed of the local folklore about the lakes.  The songs of the birds (especially The Bare Throated Whistler) are extraordinary. Breakfast will be served, and you will spend time walking in the area in the National Park and perhaps see some endemic bird species. You will be taken back to the lodge for lunch around mid morning via a hot springs.

After lunch take a siesta, and at 1600 a short bird walk will be conducted in a 6km area around the lodge. Dinner at the Lodge

Day 06 Around Moni

The area around Moni is fascinating and the ikat weaving is spectacular. After breakfast, with your Guide, you will be shown villages where weaving occurs, other villages where you can talk to the locals and see something of the local culture. After lunch at the Lodge, you will have a siesta or just enjoy the lodge gardens to rest prior to your return home. An alternative program is hiking with one of our Guides; there are many beautiful walks in the area. It is an area to be enjoyed.

Day 07 Moni – Ende – Denpasar

Depending on flight times you will either leave very early or around mid morning for Ende and go back the 90 minutes to the airport prior to catching your flight to Denpasar back to The Udayana Kingfisher Eco Lodge for dinner.
